We were fortunate in avoiding the stormy weather during our overnight return to Benodet. Stopped for a visit with an old lady-friend of the YL, then after a night in a hotel, on to Benodet in the morning. No problems encountered.
Breezy and cloudy here but no major storms expected. Sure was cold in the house after two months of furnace cut-off!
Fired up the 817ND on 17 meters and worked a few stations in Scandinavia. Also a nice Italian special event station saluting Italian Navy coastal radio. See card.
Made a decision to confine myself to 20 meters for a while, so raised the Par 20EF antenna today, Saturday. While 17 meters is hot for a limited time during the day, I decided on the a bit more reliable 20 meters. With the cw contest going, I will be QRT this weekend.
I read your blogs and pleased to find that you are well and have been active.

Hello Dick, I can work on 17m but is not optimal. I do have a better antenna performance on 20m with my end fed antenna. In the weekends I also avoid the amateur bands, there are other things to do here in the weekend. Maybe 12 meter or 30 m when I do have a little time. Have a good weekend, 73 Paul
RépondreSupprimerHi Paul and good to hear from you. 17M can be very hot for a while with extra good DX. But, having only room for one mono-band antenna, I choose the EF20 and that reliable, QRP-friendly (14.060) band.73 Dick
RépondreSupprimerWelcome back Dick, yes 20m seems to be a great band open both during the day and into the evening. 17m can be great when times are good on that band and then funky when propagation does not favor the band. Very good move to stay with 20m for the time being.

Hi Mike. Yes, I think I would be best served by remaining on 20M. There is quite a bit of activity on and near 14.060 by Euro operators, Many good German and Italian stations. The Par antenna is just about flat there and I am pleased with that...so far. As the cycle winds down, 17M and higher will be even more fussy.
RépondreSupprimer73 and enjoy your weekend.
