Was on the air at about 0630Z this morning. As usual, 30 meters, the only band I can use. Not much. Tuned to 10.116 (QRP frequency). Heard ZL1BYZ working stations. For the hell of it, I called him during a lull when he CQed.
I was amazed when he answered me. Had to repeat my call a few times but he hung in and copied. Think I was a 449 or something. Definitely not 559.
My 3-watts to that 9 meter-long wire thrown out the first-floor window. So two DX stations so far, India and New Zealand.
I turned off the radio after that ZL contact. Knew I wouldn't beat that today.
Weather much improved recently. Mostly sunny and temps near 10C.

Hello Dick, that is great DX. Seems to be propagation is getting better lately. 73, Bas

RépondreSupprimerHello Dick, great work getting into ZL land and as you said just give it a try and see what happens.....well it happened for you. I have seen ZL spotted many times but when tuned to spot have only heard static. I would had done the same after that contact as well Dick....just shut r down and enjoy the contact after glow!!

Thanks for the nice comments. I am still amazed that I made the contact. Not surprised doing it with a few watts, but my gosh, with 9 meters of wire out the first-floor window. And on 30 meters for that mater. 73 Dick
RépondreSupprimerHello Dick,
RépondreSupprimerSometimes a long wire can work wonders. Hihi
That's a fantastic contact, especially with 3 watts and 30 meters. Hope I'm as lucky some day. Congratulations!!
Hmmmm....let me guess. France to New Zealand at better than 10,000 miles with 3 watts. How many miles per watts there? Very good Dick, I've yet to make 6,000 @ 3W. I'm jealous.
RépondreSupprimerHi John. I am especially impressed with your d-a-i-l-y DX achievements on several different bands. Now that is really something. 73 Dick
RépondreSupprimerHello Dick, great DX. Congrats on your perseverance. FB 1000 Miles per Watt QSO, especially for a short antenna. Propagation is more important than the antenna. I never worked VK or ZL. hi 73, Bert
